Tunis est la capitale de la Tunisie. C'est la plus grande ville tunisienne, avec une population de 651 183 à partir de 2013. La grande région métropolitaine détient environ 2 300 000 habitants. Situé sur un grand golfe de la mer Méditerranée, derrière le lac de Tunis et le port de La Goulette, la ville s'étend le long de la plaine côtière et des collines qui l'entourent. Au centre d'un développement plus moderne se trouve l'ancienne médina. Au-delà de ce quartier se trouvent la banlieue de Carthage, La Marsa et Sidi Bou Said. La médina se trouve au centre de la ville: une agglomération dense d'allées et de passages couverts, plein d'odeurs et de couleurs intenses, de commerce bruyant et actif et d'un surcoupe de marchandises en offre allant du cuir au plastique, de l'étain à la plus fine filigrane , Des souvenirs touristiques aux travaux de petites boutiques d'artisanat. Juste à travers la porte de la mer commence la ville moderne, ou Ville Nouvelle, traversée par la grande avenue Habib Bourguiba, où les bâtiments de l'époque coloniale contrastent nettement avec les structures plus petites et plus anciennes. En tant que capitale du pays, Tunis est au centre de la vie politique et administrative tunisienne; C'est aussi le centre de l'activité commerciale du pays.
