Uraninite
L'uraninite est un minéral riche en uranium et un minerai avec une composition chimique qui est en grande partie UO2, mais en raison de l'oxydation, le minerai contient généralement de l'U3O8 variable. De plus, en raison de la désintégration de l'uranium, il contient des oxydes de plomb et des traces d'hélium. Il peut également contenir du thorium et des éléments de terres rares. Il est le plus connu sous le nom de pitchblende. Le minéral a été connu au moins depuis le 15ème siècle à partir des mines d'argent dans les monts de l'Ore, sur la frontière allemande / tchèque. La localité de type est la ville de Jáchymov, du côté tchèque des montagnes, où F.E.Brückmann a décrit le minéral en 1772. Pitchblende du gisement de Johanngeorgenstadt en Allemagne a été utilisé par M. Klaproth en 1789 pour découvrir l'élément uranium. Tous les minéraux uraninites contiennent une petite quantité de radium en tant que produit de désintégration radioactif de l'uranium. L'uranine contient également de petites quantités d'isotopes de plomb 206Pb et 207Pb, les produits finis de la série de décroissance des isotopes d'uranium 238U et 235U respectivement. De petites quantités d'hélium sont également présentes dans l'uraninite en raison de la désintégration alpha.
