Vasodilatation
La vasodilatation se réfère à l'élargissement des vaisseaux sanguins. Il résulte de la relaxation des cellules musculaires lisses dans les parois des vaisseaux, en particulier dans les grandes veines, les grandes artères et les plus petites artérioles. En substance, le processus est le contraire de la vasoconstriction, qui est le rétrécissement des vaisseaux sanguins. Lorsque les vaisseaux sanguins se dilatent, le flux de sang augmente en raison d'une diminution de la résistance vasculaire. Par conséquent, la dilatation des vaisseaux sanguins artériels diminue la tension artérielle. La réponse peut être intrinsèque ou extrinsèque. En outre, la réponse peut être localisée à un organe spécifique, ou elle peut être systémique. Les médicaments qui provoquent une vasodilatation sont appelés vasodilatateurs.
