Cycle de l'eau
Le cycle de l'eau, également connu sous le nom de cycle hydrologique ou du cycle H2O, décrit le mouvement continu de l'eau sur, au-dessus et au-dessous de la surface de la Terre. La masse d'eau sur Terre reste assez constante au fil du temps, mais le partage de l'eau dans les principaux réservoirs de glace, d'eau douce, d'eau salée et d'eau atmosphérique est variable en fonction d'une large gamme de variables climatiques. L'eau se déplace d'un réservoir à l'autre, comme de la rivière à l'océan, ou de l'océan à l'atmosphère, par les processus physiques d'évaporation, de condensation, de précipitation, d'infiltration, de ruissellement et de flux subsurface. Ce faisant, l'eau passe par différentes phases: liquide, solide et gaz. Le cycle de l'eau implique l'échange d'énergie, ce qui entraîne des changements de température. Par exemple, lorsque l'eau s'évapore, elle absorbe l'énergie de son environnement et refroidit l'environnement. Quand il se condense, il libère de l'énergie et réchauffe l'environnement. Ces échanges de chaleur influencent le climat. La phase d'évaporation du cycle purifie l'eau qui réapprovisionne ensuite la terre avec de l'eau douce. Le flux d'eau liquide et de glace transporte des minéraux dans le monde entier.
