Xénon
Le xénon est un élément chimique avec le symbole Xe et le numéro atomique 54. Il s'agit d'un gaz noble incolore, lourd et inodore, qui se produit dans l'atmosphère terrestre en traces. Bien que généralement non réactif, le xénon peut subir quelques réactions chimiques telles que la formation d'hexafluoroplatinate de xénon, le premier composé de gaz noble à synthétiser. Le xénon naturel se compose de huit isotopes stables. Il existe également plus de 40 isotopes instables qui subissent une désintégration radioactive. Le xénon est utilisé dans les lampes flash et les lampes à arc, et comme anesthésie générale. La première conception de laser excimer a utilisé une molécule de dimère de xénon comme moyen de laser, et les premiers concepteurs laser utilisaient des lampes à lampe au xénon comme pompes. Le xénon est également utilisé pour rechercher des particules massives hypothétiques faiblement interagissant et comme propulseur pour les propulseurs ioniques dans les vaisseaux spatiaux.
