Leptospirose ou la leptospirose est une zoonose provoquée par le spirochète du genre Leptospira qui affecte les humains et un grand nombre d'animaux, y compris les mammifères, les oiseaux, les amphibiens et les reptiles. La maladie a été décrite pour la première fois par Adolf Weil en 1886 lorsqu'il a signalé «des maladies infectieuses aiguës avec gonflement de la rate, jaunisse et néphrite». Leptospira a été vu la première fois en 1907 d'un syndrome de tronc. En 1908, Inada et Ito l'identifièrent d'abord comme un organisme causal et, en 1916, réalisèrent sa présence chez le rat. Bien qu'elle soit reconnue comme l'une des zoonoses les plus courantes au monde, la leptospirose est une infection bactérienne rare chez l'homme. Les infections sont généralement transmises aux humains lorsque l'eau est contaminée par l'urine de l'animal touchant l'ouverture de la peau, des yeux ou des muqueuses. En dehors des tropiques, le cas de leptospirose se produit de façon saisonnière et se manifeste principalement entre août et septembre / février et mars.
