Sélénium
Le sélénium, un élément chimique de numéro atomique 34, le symbole chimique du Se et la masse atomique de 78,96, est un type d'élément non métallique, chimiquement lié à soufre et le tellure, et on trouve rarement sous la forme d'un élément dans la nature. Le sélénium séparé se trouve sous plusieurs formes différentes, et la forme la plus stable est la forme semi-mate d'un métal gris dense structuré de la chaîne de polymère trigone. Le sélénium draine l'électricité mieux à la lumière qu'à l'obscurité, puis utilisé dans la photosynthèse. Le sélénium existe également dans diverses formes de non-conductrice, par exemple une forme de noir de kekacaan allotrope, ainsi que d'une forme cristalline rouge résultante de la molécule en forme de soufre huit anneau membre. Le sélénium se trouve dans le minerai de sulfure tel que la pyrite, lequel sélénium remplace un peu de soufre dans la matrice de minerai. Il y a aussi des minéraux sous la forme de séléniure ou de composés séléniques, mais ils sont rarement trouvés. L'utilisation principale de sélénium aujourd'hui est de faire du verre ainsi que utilisé dans les produits chimiques et les pigments. Le sélénium a également été largement utilisé pour l'électronique, mais il est maintenant remplacé par des dispositifs à semi-conducteurs en silicium.
