Eine rein matrilineare Abstammungsreihe enthält alle in einer ununterbrochenen weiblichen Abfolge von einer „Stammmutter“ herstammenden Frauen, dabei spielt die Frage der Ehelichkeit von Nachkommen keine Rolle. Diese Linie wird auch als uterine Deszendenz bezeichnet, früher auch als „mutterrechtlich“.
