अन् अव्य० [सं०]
संस्कृत व्याकरण में यह निषेधार्थक ' नञ्' अव्यय
का स्थानादेश है और अभाव या निषेध सुचित करने के लिय़े
स्वर से आरंभ होनेवाले शब्दों के पहले लगाया जाता है ।
जैसे—अनंकुश अनंत, अनधिकार, अनीश्वर आदि । हिंदी में
यह अव्यय या उपसर्ग सस्वर होता है और व्यंजन तथा स्वर
से आरंभ होनेवाले शब्दों के पहले भी लगाया जाता है । जैसे,
अनबन, अनरीति, अनहोनी, अनअहिवात, अनऋतु आदि ।
