Menurut Chandogya Upanishad salah satu kitab di dalam agama Hindu, doktrin karma menyebut bahawa mereka yang bersifat terpuji akan dimasukkan kedalam rahim baik kaum Brahmin, Kshatriya, atau Vaisya; tetapi mereka yang bersifat tercela akan masuk ke dalam rahim busuk seekor anjing atau kinzir. Dengan kata lain, setiap manusia harus bertanggungjawab atas segala yang dilakukan dan akan menerima balasannya yang setimpal.
