acromatopsia
Achromatopsia è una sindrome medica che presenta sintomi relativi a almeno cinque disturbi individuali separati. Anche se il termine può riferirsi a disturbi acquisiti, come l'achromatopsia cerebrale anche conosciuta come agnosi a colori, si riferisce in genere ad un disturbo congenito di visione di colore congenito autosomico recessivo, l'incapacità di percepire il colore e di ottenere una acuità visiva soddisfacente ad alti livelli di luce. La sindrome è presente anche in una forma incompleta più corretta come dischromatopsia. L'unica stima del suo relativo avvenimento di 1: 33.000 nella popolazione generale risale agli anni Sessanta o precedenti. C'è qualche discussione sul fatto che gli acromati possano vedere il colore o no. Come illustrato in The Island of the Colorblind di Oliver Sacks, alcuni acromati non possono vedere il colore, solo nero, bianco e sfumature di grigio. Con cinque diversi geni attualmente conosciuti per causare sintomi simili, può essere che alcuni vedono livelli marginali di differenziazione del colore a causa di diverse caratteristiche del gene. Con tali piccole dimensioni del campione e bassi tassi di risposta, è difficile diagnosticare con precisione le "condizioni acromatiche tipiche".
