L'altruismo o l'altruismo è il principio o la pratica di preoccupazione per il benessere degli altri. La teoria dell'egoismo psicologico suggerisce che nessun atto di condivisione, di aiuto o di sacrificazione può essere descritto come veramente altruistico, in quanto l'attore può ricevere un ricompenso intrinseco nella forma di gratificazione personale. La validità di questo argomento dipende dal fatto che le ricompense intrinseche si qualifichino come "benefici". Il termine altruismo può anche riferirsi a una dottrina etica che afferma che gli individui sono moralmente obbligati a trarre beneficio per gli altri.
