Spostamento angolare
Lo spostamento angolare di un corpo è l'angolo in radianti (gradi, giri) attraverso cui un punto o una linea è stata ruotata in un determinato senso su un asse specificato. Quando un oggetto ruota intorno al suo asse, il movimento non può essere semplicemente analizzato come una particella, in quanto in movimento circolare subisce una velocità e un'accelerazione in qualsiasi momento (t). Quando si tratta della rotazione di un oggetto, diventa più semplice considerare il corpo stesso rigido. Un corpo è generalmente considerato rigido quando le separazioni tra tutte le particelle rimangono costanti per tutto il movimento degli oggetti, per esempio parti della sua massa non stanno volando via. In un senso realistico, tutte le cose possono essere deformabili, tuttavia questo impatto è minimo e trascurabile. Così la rotazione di un corpo rigido su un asse fisso viene definita come moto rotazionale. Nell'esempio illustrato a destra, una particella sull'oggetto P ad una distanza fissa dalla origine, O, ruota in senso antiorario. Diventa importante quindi rappresentare la posizione della particella P in termini delle sue coordinate polari (r, θ).
