Assisi è una città e comune d'Italia in provincia di Perugia nella regione dell'Umbria, sul fianco occidentale del Monte Subasio. Fu il luogo di nascita di San Francesco, che fondò l'ordine religioso francescano nel paese nel 1208 e Santa Clara, fondatrice delle Sorelle povere, che divenne poi l'Ordine delle cattive Clare dopo la sua morte. Anche il santo Gabriele di Nostra Signora dei Dolori del XIX secolo è nato ad Assisi.
