Backchannel è la pratica di utilizzare i computer in rete per mantenere una conversazione in tempo reale in linea con l'attività del gruppo primario o le osservazioni in diretta. Il termine è stato coniato nel campo della linguistica per descrivere i comportamenti degli ascoltatori durante la comunicazione verbale.
