Una banca cattiva è una struttura aziendale creata da una banca in difficoltà per isolare titoli illiquidi e ad alto rischio. La buona banca può concentrarsi sul suo core business dei prestiti e la banca cattiva può specializzarsi per massimizzare il valore delle attività ad alto rischio. Tali istituzioni sono state create per affrontare le sfide che emergono durante una crisi economica di credito per consentire alle banche private di prendere attività problematiche fuori dai loro libri. La crisi finanziaria del 2007-2010 ha provocato la creazione di banche cattive in diversi paesi.
