Barografo
Un barografo è un barometro aneroide di registrazione. Un barografo viene utilizzato per monitorare la pressione. Il puntatore in un barometro aneroide viene sostituito con una penna. Produce un grafico cartaceo o foglio chiamato barogramma che registra la pressione barometrica nel tempo. I barografi utilizzano una o più cellule aneroidi che agiscono attraverso un cambio o un treno a leva per guidare un braccio di registrazione che ha alla sua estrema estremità uno scriba o una penna. Uno scriba registra sulla pellicola affumicata mentre una penna registra su carta utilizzando l'inchiostro, tenuta in un coltello. Il materiale di registrazione è montato su un tamburo cilindrico che viene ruotato lentamente dal movimento a orologeria. Di solito, il tamburo fa una rivoluzione al giorno, alla settimana o al mese e spesso la frequenza di rotazione può essere selezionata dall'utente. Poiché la quantità di movimento che può essere generata da un singolo aneroide è minuscola, fino a sette aneroidi vengono spesso impilati "in serie" per amplificare il loro movimento. Fu inventato nel 1844 dal francese Lucien Vidi. Poiché la pressione atmosferica risponde in modo prevedibile ai cambiamenti dell'altitudine, i barografi possono essere utilizzati per registrare variazioni di elevazione durante un volo aereo.
