La biodisponibilità
Nella farmacologia, la biodisponibilità è una sottocategoria di assorbimento ed è la frazione di una dose somministrata di farmaco inalterato che raggiunge la circolazione sistemica, una delle principali proprietà farmacocinetiche dei farmaci. Per definizione, quando un farmaco viene somministrato per via endovenosa, la sua biodisponibilità è del 100%. Tuttavia, quando un farmaco viene somministrato attraverso altri percorsi, la sua biodisponibilità generalmente diminuisce o può variare da paziente a paziente. La biodisponibilità è uno degli strumenti essenziali della farmacocinetica, in quanto la biodisponibilità deve essere presa in considerazione nel calcolo dei dosaggi per vie di somministrazione non intravenosa. Per gli integratori alimentari, le erbe e altri nutrienti in cui il percorso di somministrazione è quasi sempre orale, la biodisponibilità indica generalmente semplicemente la quantità o la frazione della dose ingerita assorbita. La biodisponibilità è definita in modo leggermente diverso per i farmaci in contrapposizione agli integratori alimentari principalmente dovuta al metodo di somministrazione e alle regolamentazioni della Food and Drug Administration. La bioaccessibilità è un concetto relativo alla biodisponibilità nel contesto della biodegradazione e dell'inquinamento ambientale.
