Un oggetto BL Lacertae o oggetto BL Lac è un tipo di galassia attiva con un nucleo galattico attivo e prende il nome dal suo prototipo BL Lacertae. A differenza di altri tipi di nuclei galattici attivi, i BL Lacs sono caratterizzati da variabilità fluida rapida e ampiezza di flusso e polarizzazione ottica significativa. A causa di queste proprietà, il prototipo della classe era originariamente ritenuto una stella variabile. Quando confrontati con i nuclei attivi più luminosi con forti linee di emissione, gli oggetti BL Lac hanno spettri dominati da un continuum non termico inimitabile. Nello schema unificato di nuclei galattici attivi radio-forte, la fenomenologia nucleare osservata di BL Lacs viene interpretata come dovuta agli effetti del getto relativistico che è strettamente allineato alla linea di vista dell'osservatore.
