CHE SIGNIFICA CALLUNA IN INGLESE
Calluna
Calluna vulgaris è la sola specie del genere Calluna nella famiglia Ericaceae. Si tratta di un arbusto perenne arricchito a basse temperature che raggiunge i 20 ai 50 centimetri di altezza, o raramente a 1 metro e più alto, e si trova ampiamente in Europa e Asia Minore su terreni acidi in situazioni soleggiate aperte e in moderata ombra. È la pianta dominante nella maggior parte delle brughiere e della brughiera in Europa, e in alcune vegetazioni di paludi e acido di pini e boschi di querce. È tollerante per il pascolo e si rigenera dopo bruciature occasionali, ed è spesso gestito in riserve naturali e brughiere di bestiame da pecore o pascoli di bestiame e anche da bruciature leggere. Riferito a Erica in tutti i vecchi riferimenti, Calluna fu separata dal genere Erica da Richard Anthony Salisbury, che ha ideato il nome generico Calluna dal greco kallunein, "abbellire, spazzare pulito", in riferimento al suo uso tradizionale nei vasi . L'epithet vulgaris specifico è latino per 'comune'. Calluna è differenziata da Erica dalla corolla e dal calice ciascuno in quattro parti invece di cinque.
