Carbonizzazione
La carbonizzazione è il termine per la conversione di una sostanza organica in carbonio o un residuo contenente carbonio attraverso la pirolisi o distillazione distruttiva. È spesso utilizzato nella chimica organica con riferimento alla generazione di gas di carbone e di catrame di carbone proveniente dal carbone grezzo. I combustibili fossili in generale sono i prodotti della carbonizzazione della materia vegetale. Il termine carbonizzazione si applica anche alla pirolisi del carbone per la produzione di coke. La carbonizzazione è anche una tappa del processo di fabbricazione del carbone e viene considerata la tappa più importante di tutti in quanto ha un potere tale da influenzare l'intero processo dall'albero in crescita fino alla distribuzione finale del carbone da carbone a varie fonti. Inoltre: nell'industria della lavorazione della lana, Carbonising è il nome di un processo chimico attraverso il quale la materia vegetale viene rimossa dalla lana, fa parte del processo di lavaggio delle lane.
