CHE SIGNIFICA CARCINOGENESIS IN INGLESE

La cancerogenesi o l'oncogenesi o la tumorigenesi è letteralmente la "creazione" del cancro. È un processo attraverso il quale le cellule normali vengono trasformate in cellule tumorali. È caratterizzato da una progressione di cambiamenti a livello cellulare, genetico e epigenetico che ultimamente riprogrammano una cellula per subire una divisione cellulare incontrollata, formando così una massa maligna. La divisione cellulare è un processo fisiologico che avviene in quasi tutti i tessuti e in molte circostanze. In circostanze normali, l'equilibrio tra la proliferazione e la morte cellulare programmata, di solito in forma di apoptosi, viene mantenuta regolando entrambi i processi per garantire l'integrità dei tessuti e degli organi. Mutazioni e epimutazioni nel DNA che conducono al cancro interferiscono con questi processi ordinati distruggendo la programmazione che regola i processi. La cancerogenesi è causata dalla mutazione e dall'epimutazione del materiale genetico delle cellule normali, che sconvolgono il normale equilibrio tra la proliferazione e la morte cellulare. Ciò comporta una divisione cellulare incontrollata e l'evoluzione di queste cellule per selezione naturale nel corpo.
