Nella mitologia greca, Circe era una dea della magia. Nella maggior parte dei casi, Circe era la figlia di Helios, il dio del sole e Perse, un Oceanid. I suoi fratelli erano Atees, il custode della puleggia dorata e Perses. Sua sorella era Pasiphaë, moglie del re Minos e madre del Minotauro. Altri conti fanno figlia di Hecate, la dea della stregoneria stessa. Circe era famosa per la sua vasta conoscenza di pozioni e erbe.
