Clima
Il clima è una misura del modello medio di variazione di temperatura, umidità, pressione atmosferica, vento, precipitazione, conteggio delle particelle atmosferiche e altre variabili meteorologiche in una determinata regione per lunghi periodi di tempo. Il clima è diverso dal tempo, in quel tempo solo descrive le condizioni a breve termine di queste variabili in una determinata regione. Il clima di una regione è generato dal sistema climatico, che ha cinque componenti: atmosfera, idrosfera, criosfera, superficie terrestre e biosfera. Il clima di una località è influenzato dalla sua latitudine, terreno e altitudine, così come i corpi d'acqua nelle vicinanze e le loro correnti. I climi possono essere classificati in base alla media e alle tipiche tipologie di variabili, in genere temperature e precipitazioni. Lo schema di classificazione più diffuso è stato originariamente sviluppato da Wladimir Köppen. Il sistema Thornthwaite, in uso dal 1948, incorpora l'evapotraspirazione insieme alle informazioni sulla temperatura e sulle precipitazioni e viene utilizzato per studiare la diversità delle specie animali e gli effetti potenziali dei cambiamenti climatici.
