Dominanza (genetica)
La dominanza nella genetica è una relazione tra alleli di un gene, in cui un solo allele viene espresso su un secondo allele presso lo stesso locus. Il primo allele è dominante e il secondo allele è recessivo. Per i geni su un autosoma, gli alleli ei loro tratti associati sono autosomici dominanti o autosomici recessivi. La dominanza è un concetto chiave nell'ereditarietà Mendeliana e nella genetica classica. Spesso i codici di allele dominanti per una proteina funzionale, mentre l'allele recessivo non lo fa. Un esempio classico di dominanza è l'eredità della forma dei semi nei piselli. I piselli possono essere rotondi o rotti. In questo caso sono possibili tre combinazioni di alleli: RR, Rr e rr. Gli individui RR hanno piselli rotondi e gli individui rr hanno piselli arricciati. Negli individui Rr, l'allele R maschera la presenza dell'allele r, quindi questi individui hanno anche piselli rotondi. Così, l'allele R è dominante per l'allele r e l'allele r è recessivo per l'allele R.
