Conservatorismo
Il conservatorismo come filosofia politica e sociale promuove la conservazione delle istituzioni sociali tradizionali. Una persona che segue le filosofie del conservatorismo è denominata tradizionalista o conservatrice. Alcuni conservatori cercano di preservare le cose come sono, sottolineando la stabilità e la continuità, mentre altri, chiamati reazionari, si oppongono al modernismo e cercano un ritorno al "modo in cui le cose sono". Il primo uso stabilito del termine in un contesto politico è stato fondato con François-René de Chateaubriand nel 1818, durante il periodo del restauro borbonico che ha cercato di ripiegare le politiche della Rivoluzione francese.
