Pyrrhocoridae
Pyrrhocoridae è una famiglia di insetti con più di 300 specie in tutto il mondo. Tutti sono colorati in rosso e sono noti come bug rossi e alcune specie sono chiamate coloranti di cotone perché le loro attività di alimentazione lasciano una macchia gialla bruno indelebile su colture di cotone. Una specie comune in alcune parti dell'Europa è il firebug, e il suo nome di genere Pyrrhocoris e il nome di famiglia sono derivati dalle radici greche per il fuoco "pyrrho-" e bug "coris". I membri di questa famiglia possono essere rapidamente separati dai Lygaeidae dalla mancanza di ocelli. La membrana del forewing ha una o due cellule da cui emergono circa 7-8 ramificazioni delle vene che possono avere rami che si fondono insieme mentre le vene principali raggiungono i margini dell'ala. Hanno tre segmenti tarsali. Possono essere confusi con alcuni membri della famiglia Largidae che condividono anche alcuni di questi personaggi e appartengono alla stessa superfamiglia. Largidae tendono ad avere il bordo del pronotum arrotondato ma la caratteristica tassonomica per la separazione è il trovato solo nelle femmine. Gli largidi femminili hanno il sesto segmento addominale visibile che sembra essere suddiviso in mezzo, mentre i pirrhocorids femminili hanno questo indivisibile.
