La Cybersquatting, secondo la legge federale degli Stati Uniti nota come Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, sta registrando, traffico o usando un nome a dominio con la malafede intesa a trarre profitto dalla buona volontà di un marchio appartenente a qualcun altro. Il cybersquatter allora offre di vendere il dominio alla persona o società che possiede un marchio contenuto all'interno del nome ad un prezzo gonfiato. Il termine deriva da "accovacciarsi", che è l'atto di occupare uno spazio o un edificio abbandonato o non occupato che lo squatter non possiede, noleggia o altrimenti ha il permesso di utilizzare.
