La citochinesi (dal cito- cellule greco e dal kinesis (movimento, movimento)) è il processo in cui il citoplasma di una singola cellula eucariota è diviso per formare due cellule figlia. Di solito inizia durante le fasi finali della mitosi, e talvolta la meiosi, dividendo una cellula mitotica in due, per assicurare che il numero di cromosomi sia mantenuto da una generazione all'altra.
