CHE SIGNIFICA DICHROISM IN INGLESE

Il diachimismo ha due significati correlati ma distinti nell'ottica. Un materiale dicroico è uno che fa sì che la luce visibile sia suddivisa in distinti fasci di diverse lunghezze d'onda o in cui i raggi luminosi aventi diverse polarizzazioni siano assorbiti da quantità diverse. Il significato originale di dichroic, dal dichroos greco, a due colori, si riferisce a qualsiasi dispositivo ottico che può dividere un fascio di luce in due fasci con diverse lunghezze d'onda. Tali dispositivi includono specchi e filtri, normalmente trattati con rivestimenti ottici, che sono progettati per riflettere la luce su un certo intervallo di lunghezze d'onda e trasmettono la luce al di fuori di tale intervallo. Un esempio è il prisma dicroico, usato in alcune videocamere, che utilizza diversi rivestimenti per dividere la luce in componenti rossi, verdi e blu per la registrazione su cavi separati CCD, tuttavia è ormai più comune avere un filtro Bayer per filtrare singoli pixel su un Singolo array CCD. Questo tipo di dispositivo dicroico non dipende solitamente dalla polarizzazione della luce. Il termine dicromatic viene utilizzato anche in questo senso.
