Il coefficiente di diffusione o di diffusione è una costante di proporzionalità tra il flusso molare dovuto alla diffusione molecolare e il gradiente nella concentrazione della specie. Diffusività si incontra nella legge di Fick e numerose altre equazioni della chimica fisica. La diffusività è generalmente prescritta per una data coppia di specie e in coppia per un sistema multi-specie. Maggiore è la diffusività, più rapidamente si diffondono tra loro. In genere, il coefficiente di diffusione di un composto è di ~ 10.000 × grande nell'aria come nell'acqua. L'anidride carbonica in aria ha un coefficiente di diffusione di 16 mm2 / s, e in acqua il suo coefficiente di diffusione è 0.0016 mm2 / s. La diffusività ha un'unità SI di m2 / s. Nelle unità CGS è dato in cm2 / s.
