Nella chimica, il pirofosfato è un oxoanion di fosforo. Composti come sali e esteri sono anche chiamati pirofosfati. Il gruppo è anche chiamato difosfato, corto per dipilfosfato, anche se questo non deve essere confuso con due fosfati. Come additivo alimentare, i difosfati sono conosciuti come E450. Oltre ai normali pirofosfati, esiste anche un numero di pirofosfati di idrogeno, come Na2H2P2O7.
