Un elastomero è un polimero con viscoelasticità e forze inter-molecolari molto debole, generalmente aventi basso modulo di Young e alto ceppo di guasto rispetto ad altri materiali. Il termine, derivato dal polimero elastico, viene spesso usato in modo intercambiabile con il termine gomma, sebbene quest'ultimo sia preferito quando si fa riferimento a vulcanizati.
