Probabilità empirica
La probabilità empirica, nota anche come frequenza relativa o probabilità sperimentale, è il rapporto tra il numero di risultati in cui un evento specificato si verifica al numero totale di prove, non in uno spazio campione teorico ma in un esperimento effettivo. In un senso più generale, la probabilità empirica valuta le probabilità dall'esperienza e dall'osservazione. In termini statistici, la probabilità empirica è una stima o stimatore di una probabilità. In casi semplici, in cui il risultato di una prova solo determina se l'evento specificato si è verificato o meno, la modellazione utilizzando una distribuzione binomiale potrebbe essere appropriata e quindi la stima empirica è la stima della massima probabilità. È la stima Bayesiana per lo stesso caso se si fanno determinate ipotesi per la distribuzione anticipata della probabilità. Se una prova fornisce maggiori informazioni, la probabilità empirica può essere migliorata adottando ulteriori ipotesi sotto forma di un modello statistico: se tale modello è montato, può essere utilizzato per ottenere una stima della probabilità dell'evento specificato.
