Bobina di campo
Una bobina di campo è un elettromagnete utilizzato per generare un campo magnetico in una macchina elettromagnetica, tipicamente una macchina elettrica rotante come un motore o un generatore. È costituito da una bobina di filo attraverso la quale scorre una corrente. In una macchina rotante, le bobine di campo sono avvolte su un nucleo magnetico di ferro che guida le linee del campo magnetico. Il nucleo magnetico è in due parti; Uno statore stazionario e un rotore che ruota dentro di esso. Le linee del campo magnetico passano in un ciclo continuo o circuito magnetico dallo statore attraverso il rotore e nuovamente attraverso lo statore. Le bobine di campo possono essere sullo statore o sul rotore. Il percorso magnetico è caratterizzato da poli, posizioni ad angoli uguali intorno al rotore in cui le linee del campo magnetico passano da statore al rotore o viceversa. Lo statore è classificato per il numero di poli che hanno. La maggior parte delle installazioni utilizza una bobina di campo per palo. Alcuni sistemi più vecchi o semplici utilizzano una singola bobina di campo con un palo a ciascuna estremità. Sebbene le bobine di campo siano più frequentemente presenti nelle macchine rotanti, vengono utilizzate, anche se non sempre con la stessa terminologia, in molte altre macchine elettromagnetiche.
