Gadidae
Gli Gadidae sono una famiglia di pesci marini, inclusi nell'ordine Gadiformes, conosciuti come cod, codfish o veri cod. Esso contiene numerosi pesci commercialmente importanti, tra cui il merluzzo, il pesce duro, il merlano e il pollo. La maggior parte delle specie gadidiche si trovano in acque temperate dell'emisfero settentrionale, con alcune eccezioni. Sono generalmente pesci di medie dimensioni e si distinguono per la presenza di tre alette dorsali sul retro e due alette anteriori sul lato inferiore. La maggior parte delle specie presenta barbelle sui morsetti, che utilizzano durante la navigazione sul fondo del mare. Gadidi sono carnivori, alimentando piccoli pesci e crostacei. I gadidi sono molto prolifici, producendo diversi milioni di uova per ogni spawning. Ciò contribuisce al loro elevato numero di popolazione, che a sua volta rende relativamente facile la pesca commerciale. I concetti differiscono dal contenuto della famiglia Gadidae. Il sistema seguito da FishBase include una dozzina di generi. In alternativa, anche i pesci presenti nell'attuale Lotidae e Phycidae sono stati inclusi in Gadidae, come le sue sottogruppi Lotinae e Phycidae.
