Un termometro a gas misura la temperatura con la variazione del volume o della pressione di un gas. Un apparecchio comune è un termometro a volume costante. È costituito da una lampadina collegata da un tubo capillare ad un manometro. La lampadina è riempita con un gas in modo che il volume del gas nella lampadina rimanga costante. Il volume è legato alla temperatura di k, nota come legge di Charles. La pressione del gas nel bulbo può essere ottenuta misurando la differenza di livello nei due bracci del manometro.
