Nella mitologia greca, Geryon, figlio di Chrysaor e Callirrhoe e nipote di Medusa, era un gigantesco gigante che abitava sull'isola Erytheia delle mitiche Hesperides nell'estremo ovest del Mediterraneo. Una generazione successiva più greca dei Greci ha associato la regione con Tartessos nell'Iberia meridionale. Geryon era spesso descritto come un mostro con volti umani. Secondo Hesiod Geryon aveva un corpo e tre teste, mentre la tradizione seguita da Eschilo gli diede tre corpi. Una descrizione persa di Stesichoros ha detto che ha sei mani e sei piedi ed è alato; Ci sono alcuni vasi di Calcidia medievali del secolo VI che ritraggono Geryon come alato.
