I Nightjari sono uccelli notturni o crepuscolari di media grandezza nella famiglia Caprimulgidae, caratterizzati da ali lunghe, gambe corte e bozze molto brevi. A volte sono chiamati goatsuckers, a causa dell'antica storia popolare che hanno succhiato il latte dalle capre. Alcune specie del Nuovo Mondo sono chiamate nighthawks.
