Nel calcolo, un'interfaccia utente grafica è un tipo di interfaccia che consente agli utenti di interagire con dispositivi elettronici tramite icone grafiche e indicatori visivi come la notazione secondaria, a differenza delle interfacce basate sul testo, delle etichette di comando digitate o della navigazione di testo. Le GUI sono state introdotte in risposta alla percezione della curva di apprendimento ripida delle interfacce di riga di comando, che richiedono comandi da digitare sulla tastiera. Le azioni in una GUI vengono normalmente eseguite tramite la manipolazione diretta degli elementi grafici. Oltre ai computer, le GUI possono essere trovate in dispositivi portatili come lettori MP3, lettori multimediali portatili, dispositivi di gioco e piccole attrezzature domestiche, di ufficio e di settore. Il termine "GUI" non tende ad essere applicato ad altri tipi di interfacce a bassa risoluzione con risoluzioni di visualizzazione, come i videogiochi, o non limitati a schermi piatti, come visualizzazioni volumetriche perché il termine è limitato all'ambito di visualizzazione bidimensionale Schermi in grado di descrivere informazioni generiche, nella tradizione della ricerca informatica presso il PARC.
