Nella politica monetaria degli Stati Uniti, il termine Fedspeak è quello che Alan Blinder ha definito "un dialetto turgido dell'inglese" usato dai presidenti della Federal Reserve Board per formulare espressioni intenzionalmente chiare, vaghe e ambigue. La strategia, usata soprattutto da Alan Greenspan, è stata utilizzata per impedire che i mercati finanziari reagiscano alle osservazioni del presidente. Il coinage è un parallelo intenzionale con Newspeak di Nineteen Eighty-Four, un romanzo di George Orwell. Il linguaggio criptico deliberatamente confuso e accuratamente testato descritto come un "dialetto indefinibile, delfatico", ha lo scopo di "dare alle persone una sensazione che non ci sia modo di capire l'economia e la finanza" e consentirebbe quindi alla Federal Reserve e al governo di gestire l'economia con meno Interferenze del pubblico.
