Eparina (dal greco antico ηπαρ (hepar), fegato), noto anche come eparina non frazionata, un glicosaminoglicano altamente solfato, è ampiamente usato come anticoagulante iniettabile e ha la più alta densità di carica negativa di qualsiasi molecola biologica nota. Può anche essere usato per formare una superficie anticoagulante interna su vari dispositivi sperimentali e medici come i tubi di prova e le macchine per la dialisi renale. Anche se è usato principalmente in medicina per l'anticoagulazione, il suo vero ruolo fisiologico nel corpo rimane poco chiaro, perché l'anticoagulazione del sangue è ottenuta principalmente da proteoglicani di solfato di eparano derivato da cellule endoteliali. L'eparina è di solito immagazzinato all'interno dei granuli secernenti delle cellule degli alberi e viene rilasciato solo nella vasculatura nei siti di lesioni tissutali.
