Monotropa uniflora
Monotropa uniflora, noto anche come pianta fantasma, tubo indiano o pianta corporea, è una pianta erbacea perenne di origine regioni temperate dell'Asia, Nord America e Nord America meridionale, ma con grandi spazi tra le aree. È stato classificato in precedenza nella famiglia Monotropaceae, tuttavia, è stato ora incluso nell'Ericaceae. In genere è scarsa o rara. A differenza della maggior parte delle piante, è bianco e non contiene clorofilla. Invece di generare energia dalla luce solare, è parassita, in particolare un myco-eterotrofico. I suoi ospiti sono certi funghi che sono mycorrhizal con alberi, il che significa che in ultima analisi ottiene la sua energia da alberi fotosintetici. Dal momento che non dipende dalla luce solare da crescere, può crescere in ambienti molto scuri come nel sottosuolo di foresta densa. È spesso associato a faggi. La complessa relazione che permette di crescere questa pianta rende difficile anche la propagazione. L'impianto è talvolta completamente bianco ma generalmente presenta macchie nere e una colorazione rosa pallida. Le varianti rare possono avere un colore rosso intenso. I fusti raggiungono altezze di 10-30 cm, vestite con foglie di scala ridotta di 5-10 mm.
