Linfonodo
Un linfonodo è un organo ovale del sistema linfatico, distribuito ampiamente in tutto il corpo compreso l'ascella e lo stomaco e legato da vasi linfatici. I linfonodi sono i principali siti di B, T e altre cellule dell'immunità. I linfonodi fungono da filtri o trappole per particelle estranee e sono importanti per il corretto funzionamento del sistema immunitario. Sono confezionati strettamente con le cellule del sangue bianco chiamato linfociti e macrofagi. I linfonodi hanno anche significato clinico. In quest'ultima, la condizione dei linfonodi è così significativa che viene utilizzata per la stadiazione del cancro, che decide il trattamento da impiegare e per determinare la prognosi. Quando gonfie, infiammate o allargate, i linfonodi possono essere duri, rigidi o teneri. I linfonodi non sono coinvolti nel sistema del corpo per affrontare la tossicità che colpisce il fegato e il rene. Il sistema linfatico è strutturato per affrontare le infezioni biologiche, così come i guasti biologici o gli errori all'interno del corpo, come nella risposta al cancro.
