Ciclo litico
Il ciclo litico è uno dei due cicli di riproduzione virale, l'altro è il ciclo lizogeno. Il ciclo litico determina la distruzione della cellula infetta e della sua membrana. Una differenza fondamentale tra i cicli lesi e fagiali lizogeni è che nel fago litico il DNA virale esiste come una molecola separata all'interno della cellula batterica e si replica separatamente dal DNA batterico ospite. La localizzazione del DNA virale nel ciclo fagno lizogeno è all'interno del DNA ospite, perciò in entrambi i casi il virus / fagi replica con l'impiego del macchinario del DNA ospite, ma nel ciclo litio di fago, il fago è una molecola separata libera a galleggiante al DNA ospite .
