Macroevoluzione è un'evoluzione su una scala di piscine gene separate. Il primo genere noto, Hyracotherium, era un animale erbivoro simile a un cane che ha vissuto nei primi Cenozoic. Poiché il suo habitat è stato trasformato in un prato arido aperto, la pressione selettiva ha richiesto che l'animale diventi un grazer veloce.
