Il movimento metodista è un gruppo di denominazioni storicamente legate al cristianesimo protestante che deriva l'ispirazione dalla vita e dagli insegnamenti di John Wesley. George Whitefield e il fratello di John Charles Wesley erano anche importanti leader del movimento. Fu come origine della rinascita all'interno della chiesa in Inghilterra del XVIII secolo e divenne una chiesa separata dopo la morte di Wesley. A causa della vigorosa attività missionaria, il movimento si diffuse in tutto l'Impero britannico, negli Stati Uniti e oltre, oggi affermando circa 80 milioni di aderenti in tutto il mondo. Il metodismo è caratterizzato dalla sua enfasi sull'aiuto ai poveri e alla persona media, al suo approccio sistematico per costruire la persona, alla "chiesa" e al suo spirito missionario.
