La microincapsulazione è un processo in cui piccole particelle o goccioline sono circondate da un rivestimento per dare piccole capsule di molte proprietà utili. In generale, viene utilizzato per incorporare ingredienti alimentari, enzimi, cellule o altri materiali su una scala micro metrica. La microincapsulazione può anche essere utilizzata per racchiudere solidi, liquidi o gas all'interno di una parete micrometrica realizzata in film solubili duri o morbidi, al fine di ridurre la frequenza di dosaggio e prevenire il degrado dei prodotti farmaceutici. In una forma relativamente semplice, una microcapsule è una piccola sfera con una parete uniforme attorno ad essa. Il materiale all'interno della microcapsule è indicato come nucleo, fase interna o riempimento, mentre il muro viene talvolta definito conchiglia, rivestimento o membrana. Alcuni materiali come i lipidi ei polimeri, come l'alginato, possono essere usati come miscela per intrappolare il materiale di interesse all'interno. La maggior parte delle microcapsule hanno pori con diametri tra pochi micrometri e pochi millimetri. I materiali di rivestimento generalmente usati per il rivestimento sono: - 1. etilcellulosa 2. alcol polilacrilico 3. gelatina 4.
