Nagana, noto anche come nagana pest o trypanosomiasi africana africana, è una malattia di animali vertebrati. La malattia è causata da trypanosomi di diverse specie nel genere Trypanosoma come Trypanosoma brucei. Trypanosoma vivax causa nagana soprattutto in Africa occidentale, anche se si è diffusa in Sud America. I tripanosomi infettano il sangue dell'hostet vertebrato, causando febbre, debolezza e letargia, che portano alla perdita di peso e all'anemia; In alcuni animali la malattia è fatale a meno che non venga trattata. I tripanosomi sono trasmessi da mosche tsetse. Una caratteristica interessante è la notevole resistenza alla patologia nagana mostrata da alcune razze di bovini, in particolare il N'Dama - una razza africana afro-afro-taurus. Questo contrasta con la suscettibilità mostrata dai bestiame Bos orientali africani come il zebu. La maggior parte degli animali selvatici africani sono anche resistenti. Questa malattia è la controparte degli animali non umane della trypanosomiasi umana africana, nota anche come malattia da sonno.
