Trincea oceanica
Le trince oceaniche sono depressioni topografiche lunghe ma stretta di scala emisferica del fondo del mare. Sono anche le parti più profonde del pavimento dell'oceano. Le trince oceaniche sono una caratteristica morfologica distintiva dei limiti delle piastre convergenti. Lungo i confini di piastre convergenti, le piastre si muovono insieme a tassi che variano da pochi millimetri a più di dieci centimetri all'anno. Una trincea segna la posizione in cui la lastra flessibile e sottomessa inizia a scendere sotto un'altra lastra litosferica. Le trince sono generalmente parallele ad un arco vulcanico dell'isola e circa 200 km da un arco vulcanico. Le trince oceaniche in genere si estendono da 3 a 4 km sotto il livello del pavimento oceanico circostante. La più grande profondità oceanica da suonare è nella Challenger Deep della Mariana Trench, ad una profondità di 11.033 m sotto il livello del mare. La litosfera oceanica si muove in trincea ad un tasso globale di circa 3 km2 / yr.
